Ansox 132 (2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-sec-butylphenol)

[Molecular formula]:  C18H30O

[CAS NO.]:  17540-75-9

[Structural formula]:

[Other Names]: 2,6-Bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-(1-methylpropyl)-phenol

[Applications]:

Ansox132 (2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-sec-butylphenol) is applied to industries of automobile, fuel and lubricant, oil field and petroleum, plastic, paint, coating and adhesive. Such as antioxidants and antioxidant intermediates, fuel and lubricant additives, polymerization inhibitors and chain terminators. It also can be used in adhesion promoter resins, inkjet inks, UV/EB curable coatings, etc.

Ansox132 being used as polymerization terminator, the vinyl chloride polymers production process is well operable, enables PVC productions of having less uneven plasticizer absorption and having both good anti-initial-discoloration properties and good thermal stability, without any organic solvent and being convenient to feed in.

A liquid stabilizer composition of Ansox132 and other antioxidants in the manufacture of polyether polyols and polyurethane foams is a favorable scorch inhibitor, contributing less yellowing to the foams comparing to which of the conventional solid BHT or 1010, with a shortcutting process as well.

A composition of Ansox132 and another component with group of low nitrogen content can effectively inhibit the polymerization of dienes, such as butadiene and isoprene, that is less expensive than using stable free radicals exclusively.

The liquid antioxidants with Ansox132, widely used for fuels, lubricants, adhesives and rubbers, can give excellent processing stability and can easily be mixed with other components. Compared with which of BHT, the decomposition temperature of 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-sec-butylphenol is much higher.

2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-sec-butylphenol is listed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as an effective food contact substance, which is any substance that is intended for use as a component of materials used in manufacturing, packing, packaging, transporting or holding food (US FDA 2008). It is specifically used as an antioxidant in food contact applications in plasticized vinyl chloride homo- and co-polymers (PVC) (US FDA, Sept. 20, 2000, FCN No. 80).
